Tier 1 Welcomes Neurosurgeon Walter Jermakowicz, MD, PhD, to Our Staff
COOKEVILLE – Tier 1 Neurosurgery is proud to welcome Dr. Walter Jermakowicz, MD, PhD, to our team of providers. He joins Dr. Joseph Jestus, a Mayo Clinic-trained neurosurgeon who started the neurosurgical program at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Jermakowicz received his medical degree, as well as a doctor of philosophy in neuroscience, from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the largest academic spine practice in North America. He also completed a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Dr. Jermakowicz is trained in both open and minimally invasive spine surgery, and his focus in functional neurosurgery allows him to offer novel treatments for back pain not in the repertoire of a typical spine surgeon, including spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal drug delivery pumps.
His pain practice includes the treatment of trigeminal and occipital neuralgias, and his movement disorders practice entails deep brain stimulation (DBS) for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia.
Tier 1 Neurosurgery, part of Tier 1 Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Institute, brings state-of-the-art neurosurgical techniques to the Upper Cumberland and surrounding areas for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders affecting the brain, carotid artery, spinal cord and nervous system, as well as degenerative spine conditions.
Our services include microneurosurgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, stroke surgery and advanced spine surgery, as well as brain and spine trauma care.
